Jaimese Johnson was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and developed a passion for fine arts at a young age. When she was just five years old, she was awarded a savings bond after drawing a “Mommy & Me” picture. Her talents led her to Duke Ellington School of the Arts, where she learned the ins and outs of technical design and production. This fall, she will receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Communication & Digital Media Arts, Concentration: Digital Cinema and Time-based Media from the College of Arts and Science at Bowie State University. The writers who inspired her most were John Singleton, Tyler Perry, Spike Lee, James Baldwin, Jordan Peele, Ava DuVernay, and Ice Cube. Since the age of 14, Jaimese has served as a lighting designer, board operator, stage manager, costume designer, and stagehand on countless productions. Working with greats such as Patti Labelle, Ledisi, John Legend, Neyo, Earth, Wind & Fire, Luke James, and many more. Throughout her college career, Jaimese earned three Honor Society memberships, all while working internships with Megamind Media, Arts’Tination and HBCU in LA. Today, she’s working on local short films, screenplays, 2D animations, a stop motion film, and motion graphics. She looks forward to exploring genres such as Afrofuturism, thriller, fantasy, and drama for her upcoming scripts. Upon graduation, she plans on continuing her education at University of Southern California, to obtain her Master’s degree. Her future endeavors consist of her owning a film production company, directing mainstream films, opening the door for upcoming black writers and creating a running series that unifies POC .
